What will be done

  • Re-use wherever possible
  • Composting of all degradable material
  • Incineration of all non-polluting combustible materials; this can then be used as a fertiliser in the production of food
  • Use minimal packaging
  • Recycle where possible, e.g. glass, plastic, magazines and metals
  • Use environmentally friendly cleaning products where possible
  • Minimise disposable items e.g. offer mugs instead of disposable cups for customers that are eating at the location
  • If disposable items are required, consider their construction i.e. use paper/cardboard cups rather than polystyrene and use wooden cutlery rather than plastic
  • Minimise travelling distance, especially when towing the unit
  • If items are being purchased, ensure they are durable and, where possible, made from sustainable materials
  • Ensure the towing vehicle is well maintained
  • Endeavour to purchase products from local suppliers and support local business whenever possible

  • Aim to use as little paper as possible in administration / office areas by:
    • Encouraging correspondence by e-mail
    • Printing double sided when ever possible
    • Scanning documents that are to be stored rather than producing hard copies
    • re-using scrap paper for note pads, which are incinerated after use
    • Use re-writable CDs
    • Use ink cartridges that can either be re-used or recycled
  • Encourage users not to drop litter (provide bins)
One Step Further - Future Plans
  • Investigate the use of e-diesel for the towing vehicle
  • If a toilet is created, consider trying to build a compost toilet
  • Consider grey water usage e.g. for washing up and cleaning the outside of the unit.
  • Conduct feasibility studies into the use of solar power, wind energy and grey water.

Reducing Energy Consumption
  • Gas and electricity (fuel) consumption will be monitored and where possible steps taken to reduce it
  • Use energy efficient lighting
  • When not in use, fridges and freezers will be switched off. This also ensures they are regularly defrosted and running efficiently
  • Pipes are lagged to prevent heat loss and frost damage
  • Appliances will be serviced annually ensuring they are running as efficiently as possible
